Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire features originals: movie review

Published By Alexandra Heilbron on Mar 21, 2024

Having been introduced to the characters of Callie (Carrie Coon), her two kids Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and seismologist Gary (Paul Rudd) in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, we now get to see them acting as an official Ghostbusting team in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. They’re living in the original Ghostbusters firehouse and chasing down ghosts around New York City.

They discover that there’s an Orb of Garraka, which contains a terrifying and powerful spirit that can freeze people and places. They may be out of their depth when it comes to this ghost, unless they can get help.

Luckily, several of the original Ghostbusters are on hand, including Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts).

Although there are not as many laughs and outrageous situations as there were in the original 1984 Ghostbusters, there are more in this film than there were in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which makes it a really funny, enjoyable watch. There’s an interesting twist when lonely 15-year-old Phoebe, who’s been banned from ghostbusting in NYC because she’s underage, befriends a ghost girl, who comes to play an important role in what’s about to happen.

Best of all was seeing the original Ghostbusters come to the aid of the new Ghostbusters – it made for a satisfying experience that earned applause from the audience at the preview screening. ~Alexandra Heilbron

I loved the Ghost of Garraka. A really good monster. And I'm all about the monsters.
