Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Diogo Morgado shot to fame at the age of 15, when he landed a starring role on the hit Portuguese television series Terra Mãe (1998). Roles soon followed on the TV series Diário de Maria (1998), A Lenda da Garça (2000) and on the TV mini-series A Febre do Ouro Negro (2000). His performance as Miguel in the 2000 telefilm Amo-Te, Teresa earned him acclaim as one of the most promising actors of his generation and the TV movie was one of the highest rated ever in Portugal. He also turned in a noteworthy performance in the title role of Portuguese dictator Antonio De Oliveira Salazar in the hit mini-series A Vida Privada De Salazar.

Diogo made his feature film debut with a starring role in the 2002 film The Forest (A Selva), playing a young man of Portuguese nobility who falls in love with a married woman in 1912 while working on a plantation in the Amazon. In O Crime do Padre Amaro, which received international attention, he was able to showcase his comedic talents.

Diogo has also performed on stage, with lead roles in prestigious plays such as David Hare’s Skylight and Peter Shaffer's The Royal Hunt to the Sun.

Named one of GQ’s Men of the Year, he's best known in North America for his portrayal of Jesus in the Emmy nominated 2013 mini-series The Bible, which aired on The History Channel. That led to him reprising his starring role in the major motion picture Son of God. Since then, he's also completed supporting roles in two American indie films—the urban drama Red Butterfly and the action film Born to Race: Fast Track.

Viewers may also have seen Diogo playing Dr. Jorge Velez in the third season (2013) premiere of the hit ABC drama, Revenge.

Additionally, Diogo has played lead roles in international films such as Spain’s Dos rivales casi iguales and Star Crossed and Brazil’s The Jungle. He can currently be seen on Portuguese television as Eduardo in the series Sol de Inverno. He splits his time between his home in Portugal and Los Angeles, and he has a son, born in 2009 with Cátia Oliveira.
