Dean, JT, and Wes (Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler) made up a fake friend 20 years ago when they were kids to use as an alibi when a prank went wrong. Later, with their families getting suspicious, they decide to hire an actor to play Ricky Stanicky, named "Rock Hard" Rod (John Cena). Rod is more trouble than he is worth and starts to interfere in their lives instead of helping. He takes his role too far and the trio begin to regret inventing him.
