Evan Hansen (Ben Platt) writes a hopeful letter to himself on the first day of school at the request of his therapist. However, when he arrives at school, the reality of having no friends makes the first day all the more difficult. No one signs his cast, until another outcast, Connor Murphy (Colton Ryan) notices the empty cast and signs it himself in block letters. However, when Connor finds the letter Evan rewrote and printed, he takes it and leaves, making Evan worry that Connor will post it on social media to humiliate him.
