Disney+ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 1 review

Published By Marriska Fernandes on Mar 19, 2021

Based on the first episode, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks like a promising series with exciting action-packed sequences and well-rounded character developments that will be a treat for Marvel fans.

This latest series from Disney+ is set in the world of Marvel, and takes place six months after the events of Avengers: Endgame. We see that the world, including the superheroes, are still reeling from the Blip -- when millions of people disappeared for five years.

In the first episode, we're introduced to Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), who was once the Winter Soldier. The opening scene kicks off with a solid eight-minute action sequence that is anything but subtle. Falcon jumps off a plane, spreads his wings and embarks on a mission that requires him to be “under the radar.”

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (Disney+)We then get to see the other side of Sam’s life as he goes back to his hometown in Delacroix, Louisiana. He wants to help his sister, who is struggling to keep their family boating business afloat. He tries to get a loan from the bank, and what unfolds is quite entertaining.

You see, life has not been easy for Sam as he tries to start his life over after being blipped out of existence for five years. He was chosen as Captain America’s successor in Avengers: Endgame, and  is still uncertain about this.

On the other hand, Bucky is suffering from nightmares as he visits a therapist to talk about what’s been keeping him up at night. He used to be a brainwashed assassin and now suffers from PTSD. He also happens to be a 106-year-old man, so everyone he knows is long gone. The first episode ends on an exciting note with a cliffhanger that’s sure to have fans returning to the series next week.

Going back to its solid formula, this six-episode series seems quite different from WandaVision. It’s one hour long, in color and packed with well-choreographed action sequences that Marvel fans will adore. Anthony has already proven to be a charismatic lead in other films, and he is more than capable of leading this Marvel series.

Sebastian brings charming, meaningful moments and interactions. I can't wait to see the banter play out between Anthony and Sebastian, as this is billed as a buddy comedy.

Seeing the backstory of these two characters will no doubt draw us further into the MCU, and it certainly looks like Marvel Studios is giving this series the big-screen treatment in terms of style, scope and ambition.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres today on Disney+.  New episodes will be released weekly. ~Marriska Fernandes

Y'all need to hire someone who can actually write reviews. This is pathetic.
