The Hunger Games prequel shoots to top of weekend box office

The top five at the weekend box office have three brand new entries. Find out which new movies made the grade.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, a prequel to the original Hunger Games trilogy, debuted at the top of the box office with a haul of $44 million.

Trolls Band Together featuring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake debuted in second place, taking in $30.6 million.

The Marvels starring Brie Larson, a sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel, dropped from the top spot last weekend to tie for third, earning an extra $10.2 million for a two-week total of $65 million.

Thanksgiving, about a serial killer in Plymouth, Massachusetts, also took in $10.2 million, during its first weekend in theaters.

Rounding out the top five was Five Nights at Freddy's starring Josh Hutcherson, earning an extra $3.5 million for a four-week total of $132.6 million.
