Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Britt Robertson was homeschooled by her parents while growing up in South Carolina. The eldest of seven children, Britt began landing roles in plays at the Greenville Little Theater. She acquired an agent in Los Angeles and began travelling back and forth for work. Her first break was when she landed the role of Little Sheena on an episode of the TV series Sheena, starring Gena Lee Nolin in the title role.

Britt then played a guest role on an episode of the TV series Power Rangers Time Force, and at 13, was cast in the DVD family film Ghost Club (2003), about a group of young kids who search for ghosts. She received a 2004 Young Artist nomination for her work in the movie. After that, Britt began to work regular, appearing in TV movies such as Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers (playing Michelle Seaver) and Jesse Stone: Night Passage.

In 2007, Britt made her debut in a major motion picture when she was cast as Steve Carell's middle daughter in the Walt Disney release Dan in Real Life.

Starring roles on four TV series followed: Swingtown (2008), CW's critically acclaimed drama Life Unexpected (2010 to 2011), The Secret Circle (2011 to 2012, also for CW) and CBS TV's Sci-Fi drama Under the Dome.

During hiatus from her TV series, Britt played roles in motion pictures such as Scream 4 (2011), The First Time (2012) with Teen Wolf star Dylan O'Brien, and Delivery Man (2013), playing Vince Vaughn's daughter in the latter. She also played a small role in Cake (2014) with Jennifer Aniston and co-stars with George Clooney in Tomorrowland. She also played a starring role in the Disney TV movie Avalon High (2010) as Allie Pennington, a teen who finds herself involved in the reincarnation of King Arthur and his knights as they battle evil forces.

In The Longest Ride, based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, Britt plays Sophia Danko, a college student who falls in love with a champion bull rider with a health condition, who is putting his life in danger in order to save his family's ranch.

Britt's latest credits include the Garry Marshall comedy Mother's Day (2016) with Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston, the Lasse Hallström adventure drama A Dog's Purpose (2017) with Josh Gad and Dennis Quaid, and the sci-fi romance flick The Space Between Us (2017) with Asa Butterfield.

From 2018 to 2019, Britt was part of the ensemble cast of the ABC drama series For the People, playing lawyer Sandra Bell.

Britt was named one of the top 55 Faces of the Future in Nylon Magazine's Young Hollywood Issue. She loves surfing and playing football.

Britt dated her The First Time co-star Dylan O'Brien from 2011 to 2018. She moved on to Quantico star Graham Rogers, then was dating Riverdale star KJ Apa, with whom she stars in I Still Believe (2020), but the relationship was short lived and was over by December 2019.
