I love the Cinema Art Theater and am so happy to have this venue within our community. I enjoy the many film festivals that are held throughout the year. Such an asset to our area!

Best Independent film theater on the mid atlantic seaboard

August 03, 2021

If you find yourself in Lewes or Rehoboth Beach Delaware and it's not a beach day - find the Cinema Art Theater and treat yourself to fabulous films. They are always showing the most current independent films. They change the line up each week, so in the course of a couple weeks you could see 4 or 5 films that would never be shown at a cineplex. Comfortable seating!

Appalling treatment

October 20, 2019

So, I am visiting OC for the weekend as a brief getaway while directing a very difficult play about the Holocaust for my university, where I serve as the Department Chair. Today, the weather is horrible, and I even saw that there were travel advisories for the region. However, I wanted to see the documentary being screened about cancer research. So I drove from 62nd Street in OC to Rehoboth to see their 2PM showing--their only showing incidentally. It was 2:02 PM when I arrived at the door. I was not 2 minutes late because I intended to be rude to the other patrons. I was 2 minutes late because I needed to drive safely in gale force winds and pummeling rain. There were at least 5 other cars in the parking lot, so it does not appear that many people braved the horrible weather to come out for this showing. A young man came to the door, pretentious as all get out, and promptly told me to go away, since they did not seat patrons who were late. I told him that I had been driving in terrible conditions for over an hour and needed to be careful, which cost me a few minutes. He again told me to go away rather rudely and said, "The other patrons made it in time!" while closing the door in my face. You know, right now I am back in my condo watching emergency vehicles barrel down the road. This prompted me to write this review. It's bad out there! I understand late seating rules. What is my profession? I am a Chair of a Theatre Department for a major university. Years ago I was the House Manager for a Theatre Center that held a five show season in 4 different theatres--20 shows per season. Many of our shows barred late seating, dependent upon the director's wishes. However, we ALWAYS recognized when exceptions due to inclement weather were needed. Today in OC, MD and Rehoboth Beach, DE, there should have been one of those exception days in place. I drove over an hour due to the horrendous weather to get to a documentary I really wanted to see for persona
